Third Time's the Charm
Sully finally found his Forever Family, and we couldn't be happier for him!! His new mom came to meet him at the Meet & Greet on May 12th after seeing him online. We quickly made arrangements for him to begin his trial Foster-to-Adopt period with his new family on Mother's Day, and they fell in love with Sully immediately! He has the best parents I could imagine and two wonderful doggie older brothers. His family made his adoption final this past Thursday at Obedience Class. Congratulations, Sully... now MOOSE (or Marty-- they are still deciding)!!

Bath day!
Sully goes to school- Twice!
Sully got to go to school TWO times this week! The first time was on Thursday when we went up to Tomlinson's in Cedar Park to participate in an Obedience Class with Dana Cooper of Woofers Canine Companion Training. Sully is in a special Rescue Dog class with one other dog: Hermes of the Central Texas SPCA. Sully did really well in class!! We worked on sits and downs and talked about nutrition and keeping his mind busy. We have some homework to do this week, and Sully really enjoys the training time. Then on Friday Sully went to human school! A wonderful middle school girl wrote to us and asked if we would bring one of the pups to her so that she could have him during her (fantastic!) presentation on shelter and rescue dogs for her Gifted & Talented class. She wanted a dog who was housebroken, good with kids, and would be an asset during the presentation. We knew Sully was the man for the job! And he was wonderful. He charmed the kids and their teacher... and then some teachers in other classes! Everyone loved Sully, and we got to tell a lot of kind people about Forgotten Friends.
Co-Pilot!

Sully spent a lot of time riding in the car with me this week. On Wednesday, he drove with the carpool to school in Lake Travis and then we drove up to his vet in Liberty Hill for a check-up (he is finally off of his antibiotics and doing well with the upper respiratory infection so he got to get his remaining vaccinations!).On Thursday he rode with the carpool on the way home from school and stayed with me while my little boy had gymnastics & swimming lessons. Then we drove up to Cedar Park for Sully's Obedience Class with Dana Cooper!!!
On Friday, we drove down to Cedar Creek, Texas (near Batrop) for Sully to participate in a school presentation.
Sully was a very good boy on all of his carrides. He just sat back and enjoyed the ride! A wonderful co-pilot-- though almost too big to sit with his seatbelt in the front seat (air bag off)!

Back to Foster Care...

Well Darn. Sully's potential family reluctantly returned him to us on Friday due to arguments between Sully and their Jack Russel Terrier. While we are happy to have our bear-cub, big lug, lovey-cuddle bug back, we are So Sad for him that this home didn't work and Worried about a second report of not getting along with a resident dog! We have already contacted a trainer to see if we can help Sully get along as well in his next home as he does here!On the good side, Sully's upper respiratory infection seems much improved. And when he came home he got to have a reunion with his sister Sophie who is now at our house as well!

A busy two weeks for our bear cub with a Happy Ending on the horizon...
Sully has continued to be on antibiotics to get over his sinus/upper respiratory infection so we went back to the vet this week to have an exam and start some new antibiotics. Dr. Gibson felt that the gunk is finally breaking up and Sully is on the mend. He also recommended giving Sully a steam bath each night to help with the congestion, so he has been in the bathroom while Ben takes his bath each night so that they can both get the steam from the shower. Sully is not a fan of the steam bath, even with Ben in there with him, but it does seem to be helping with the congestion.Last Saturday Sully went to the Forgotten Friends- Mixed Breed Rescue Meet & Greet on special request and he got to go home with one of the other Foster moms and meet her extra-large German Shepherd mix dog. Sully was possessive of even HER toys, so we are really watching him for resource guarding with other dogs now so that he can unlearn that behavior. He is getting treats and praise for sharing, letting another dog enjoy a treat first, etc. We have had some advice from trainers as well as a book recommendation (Mine!) that I think will be useful for Sully and other dogs who show a tendency toward resource guarding.
On Wednesday Sully got to do a home visit with a fabulous family who brought their sweet JRT pup to meet him at the April 14th Meet & Greet. I think this is going to be Sully's Forever Family!!! They are putting the final touches on their fence, and then Sully will get to go on his trial foster-to-adopt stay with them- YAY Sully!!
